Give seedlings a strong start
Practical steps for strong seedlings: work cleanly, balance moisture and light, and build up their care gradually.
A healthy seedling starts with a quiet, predictable environment. With clean material, even moisture and sufficient light, you give young plants the best chance to develop compact roots and sturdy leaves.
Start with clean material
Use a clean pot or plug and a light, airy substrate. Work with clean hands and tools to reduce fungi and damage to young roots.
Keep moisture and light in balance
- Make the substrate moist, but not soaked.
- Do not water again until the top layer starts to dry slightly.
- Ensure sufficient light without leaves feeling warm.
Build the care quietly
Check the moisture, leaf colour and stem daily. Change one factor at a time. This way you better see what the seedling reacts to and avoid unnecessary stress.
